How Jake Contacted Me
Jake was referred to me by a mutual friend. So I reached out to him after she told me he was looking for a photographer to capture his Seal Beach surprise proposal. I was stoked and jumped on instagram to talk to him. (Us Millennials, everything is just so easily within reach). I offered he’d see past engagement sessions I’ve done to ensure we were on the same page with my style and approach. He loved it and booked.
I didn’t have any contact with Jasmine, it was going to be a total surprise. So much so that she won’t even know I’m there when he initially proposes! I was to go incognito behind a tree. Jake’s brother’s girlfriend (did you follow that?) called me the day of to let me know that there’s actually a whole set-up she made for them.
Seal Beach Location
Jake’s family set everything up for the surprise proposal on the green patch right in front of Seal Beach. When I got there, it was obvious where it was going to be. Jake and Jasmine’s moms greeted me and told me that they were also going to hide when Jake comes. Before she went to hide in her car, Jasmine’s mom slipped her phone in the basket on the proposal mat and recorded the entire thing. Jake, Jasmine, Jake’s brothers, and their girlfriends were off at a bar “celebrating one of Jake’s brothers’ birthday.” They came to the spot 5 minutes before Jake and Jasmine, and hid in their cars. Then Jake and Jasmine walked up.
Seal Beach Surprise Proposal
Jasmine knew that the proposal was eventually going to happen because they had talked about it a few times. She didn’t know when it was going to happen though. In the past few months, Jake kept making sure that Jasmine’s nails were done, very smart dude!
Jake was also so slick the day of! They walked hand in hand into their rose-path to the spot. The closer they got, the more obvious it became to Jasmine. Their family gave them a few minutes to soak it all in, then they came out to greet them and surprise her. It was a total love fest and to have been able to preserve this first step to a life together was an honor that made my heart so full. I cried when he proposed, it was the first time I saw and met Jasmine and I quickly became overwhelmed with happiness for her.
Jake creates woodworks. This guy is crazy talented. He created a rectangular wedding ring box so it closes flat and not bulgy (GENIUS). Insane and beautiful creation. It definitely added to the charm of his proposal.
Their Engagement Session
After the proposal, we went to the beach to photograph their engagement session! It’s probably the best time to do it because that is when people are just so in love and so happy. It was so much fun. At one point, Jasmine gave Jake a piggyback ride and went through a group of 3 kids playing soccer on the beach. Those 3 boys will forever know what love looks like. Then, we headed into Seal Beach Promenade to take some photos and ended back in front of their car.
What a beautiful love-filled day it was.

You looking to propose? And want me to photograph it?! YEAH? Well, just so you know I sure as heck want to.
