Ever heard of an in-home wedding? Well, it’s a thing!! And guess what? You can have any kind of wedding even one in your own home! Did you ever think of that? That’s the beauty of this whole thing, you can literally have the wedding you dream of having and it can be in your home and still be so beautiful. There are no rules!

The Controversy of an Intimate Wedding or Elopement

I truly and whole heartedly believe that. An intimate in-home wedding sounds like a total dream to me. But, I understand not everyone will feel like it can be a possibility. And, maybe, you feel like if you have a small and intimate wedding, you’ll be met with resistance, confusion, and maybe even anger. I also recently heard the phrase that “it’s selfish to have an intimate wedding or to elope.” Maybe you’re nervous about that too, but it’s still want you wish you could do.

I was a bit dumbfounded when I first heard that “selfish” comment. Couldn’t wrap my head around it. I was… confused. How is it selfish to want to save money on food on 100s of people? To avoid renting a large venue? To only wanting the closest humans, or just you and your partner? And to want to marry the love of your life in the one place you truly imagine that wedding to be? Whether that location be in your home or in Morocco. I didn’t understand it.

After all, this is one day of your life that is coined “your day.” Why is it selfish to spend it how you whole-heartedly want? Let me fill ya in on a little secret, it is NOT selfish.

On the contrary, isn’t it selfish to expect someone to pay thousands and thousands of dollars to throw a party and invite 100s of people they may not even know well just because some of those people will find that unselfish?

Why an In-Home Wedding Styled Shoot?

Anyway, it made no sense to me. But here’s the thing. I think that a bride and her groom should celebrate their wedding however their hearts truly desire it to be. If that means only having themselves be part of the ceremony as an elopement in New Zealand, if it means having their closest family members join in with an intimate in-home wedding, or even if that means inviting 100s of their favorite people to a venue they loved. The decision should ultimately be on the couple getting married.

So, I wondered. Have I ever seen an intimate in-home wedding? One that had an emphasis on DIY stuff? I hadn’t. So I wanted to do a styled shoot to maybe inspire brides and show them that you can literally have any type of wedding that you dream of. And, that it can be simple and still beautiful! That, you don’t need to go to the end of the world if you didn’t want to. I wanted to show that your wedding can be in your home and still be stunning. That was the goal.
