Here’s to untraditional, to the smallest most intimate civil wedding I have been honored to take part of and photograph. Here is the cutest San Diego Civil Wedding you will EVER see. Where no rules applied and where my couple did exactly what they wanted to do, because why the heck not.
San Diego Civil Wedding
This San Diego Civil Wedding took place at the Kearny Mesa Courthouse. Very simple location! We had the choice of doing the ceremony in either the inside part (a ceremony room) or outside in the parking lot… WE CHOSE THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE DUH. What’s neat is that they actually have a secluded area surrounded with trees where the ceremony is held (we didn’t know this when we chose the outside) but it was PERFECT! Just a little nook was all we needed.
The civil ceremony I think lasted 5-10 minutes total. It was so simple yet so beautiful. I can’t express how happy my couple was when they were announced husband and wife. I had the largest smile too. All weddings are beautiful but this was particularly special. I think because it was literally just them (and me as their witness, I GOT TO SIGN THE PAPERS!), it felt extra good and extra special. The love feeling was everywhere.
San Diego, CA
It’s no secret I love San Diego and for this type of session to happen here first makes me so happy. San Diego has the prettiest beaches (see La Jolla Cove), the best fish tacos (visit Oscar’s Mexican Seafood and order the smoked fish tacos… you’re welcome), some other incredible food (I can’t remember off the top of my head), the nicest people, and the cutest little shops (ESPECIALLY DURING HALLOWEEN TIME).
I fell in love with this city sometime in early 2018 and have been playing with the idea of moving here, each few months the playing becomes a bit more serious. And here’s a secret, in the past few months I’ve been actually taking the steps towards making the move happen in the next year, but I digress! San Diego has the best weather, even better than Los Angeles. Also, no LA traffic, I MEAN COME ON! And so why not have a civil wedding here?
Unique and Non-Traditional Approach
I love it when my couples do things their way. I know that it is difficult sometimes to put aside all the other opinions being thrown at you, but from what I have seen, my couples are happiest when they do things the way they want. Sean and Kara wanted an intimate thing just for them. They needed this, wanted to do it in a cute floral summer dress, the epitome of stress-free!! AND guess what?! They did it, were incredibly happy about it and so in love. They got their intimate ceremony the way they wanted it.
AND THEY WILL STILL HAVE A LARGER WEDDING!! They are still planning something bigger, allowing their parents to take part in it, inviting their friends to dance the night away with them. But they wanted the best of both worlds, and who says you can’t have that?! They did it because that is how they wanted things to get done. I am so in awe of them and their choices. I love it so much when my couples let their hearts lead.
After the ceremony, we headed out into San Diego and found the perfect little spot for some photos to celebrate the newlyweds! Stress free, enjoying every ounce of their love with some champagne. It was perfection.
Okay I’m all done writing things out. Enjoy this beautiful San Diego Civil Wedding!! I hope Sean and Kara influence you to do your wedding day how you want to do it, too!!
